George could not go another step. “We will stop at the next creek and wait for morning,” he ordered his Indian guide, who was fifteen or twenty paces ahead of him.
The Indian made no reply and kept walking. They broke out of the trees and began to cross a meadow. It was quite light because of the snow on the ground. They could see where they were going for once instea21d of stumbling among the thickets of the deep forest. George thought this would be a good place to stop. He called, “Find water. We will stop here.”
